Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, and Punta de Mita
General Information

Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, and Punta de Mita are three important Mexican destinations included in the price of one. Puerto Vallarta is located on Banderas Bay, right on the border between Jalisco and Nayarit states on the Pacific coast; to the south of Mazatlán, north of Manzanillo, and only 212 mi. from Guadalajara, the capital of the state of Jalisco. It has a territory of 20 mi. from north to south and 26 mi. from east to west. It is surrounded by the Sierra Madre Mountains which, at this point, almost descend to the sea; it has green and lush vegetation in keeping with the semi-tropical climate of the area. Temperatures throughout the year are pretty constant, ranging from 80°F during the day to 70°F at night.

Puerto Vallarta

Had always been a quiet fishing village until it was “discovered” back in the 1960s by a famous film director, John Houston, who immediately bought a house there and basically settled in this town for the rest of his life. However, in 1963 he made his famous film “Night of the Iguana,” starring Ava Gardner and the world-renowned actor Richard Burton, who started his own romance with Elizabeth Taylor at the time; this put Puerto Vallarta on the map. Since then, the town has grown, and the tourist attractions, which make the area what it is today, have developed. But still, Puerto Vallarta retains its aura of old Mexico, and the town is now a national monument. All buildings have to be in keeping with the distinctive architecture of the town, and all streets in the downtown area are still cobblestoned. The charm of the town and the beautiful Banderas Bay on which it lies are the greatest attractions of this destination, but there is the added bonus that Puerto Vallarta is still an unknown destination for many people, and therefore, generally speaking, there are not the crowds that are to be found in the other more popular destinations.

Riviera Nayarit

Is located 1 mi. north of Puerto Vallarta and is spread across approximately a 1,100-acre site along 3 mi. of beachfront. Punta de Mita is located in the state of Nayarit at the northernmost point of Banderas Bay, less than a 60-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta Airport.

Punta de Mita

A relatively new resort, formerly a fishing village, with exclusive Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, and hotels such as the Four Seasons and St. Regis.
